Meet Steven J. Meiner

Candidate for Miami Beach Commissioner

My wife Shanyn and I have called Miami Beach our home since 2007 and we are proud to be raising our children Jacob Matisyahu and Madison Michal in our beautiful City.

Professional Experience

Since 2007 I have practiced law as an attorney in the Division of Enforcement at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.  I also served in the Asset Management Unit, a specialized unit within the Division of Enforcement.

Prior to joining the SEC, I practiced for 11 years in Manhattan as a litigator in private practice, including with prominent national and international law firms Dewey Ballantine (1998-2002) and Mayer Brown (2002-2007).

Educational Background

I obtained my law degree from Brooklyn Law School, where I graduated in 1996 with cum laude honors in the Top 6% of my class and made the Dean’s List.

I graduated from Brooklyn College in 1993, and was recognized as summa cum laude with a GPA of a 3.93.  I was also awarded Phi Beta Kappa, made the Dean’s List, and graduated from the Scholars Program.

Civic Background

I am active in the Miami Beach community and regularly attend City of Miami Beach committee and board meetings.  I was appointed by the Mayor to serve on a City of Miami Beach advisory panel.

In addition to spending time with my family, I am a sports fan, with a particular passion for baseball. I love to read and I read/listen to two non-fiction books a week on issues relating to politics, urban living, business and economics.  I am always on the lookout for books to read, so please let me know if you have any good book recommendations.
