My First Month in Office as Mayor
My first month in office will be an all hands on deck approach, with a strong focus on public safety.
I'll meet with the Chief of Police daily to review action plans and put in place my strategies for drastically reducing crime and for high-impact weekends like Spring Break.
As a sitting Commissioner, I won't have a learning curve; I'm ready to hit the ground running.
Reducing Crime: During my time as a Commissioner, I transformed our municipal prosecution team to combat crime and hold repeat criminal offenders accountable. As Mayor, I'm committed to expanding this program. I also plan to create a crime drug testing lab to ensure that drug dealing arrests are prosecuted. These measures and others to be announced will create a safer and more secure Miami Beach.
Limiting Overdevelopment: At my first Commission meeting as Mayor I will call for a vote my current proposed legislation that would limit overdevelopment by requiring 6/7 Commission approval for building size increases (FAR) instead of the current 5/7 vote. Let’s ensure responsible development, not over development!
Efforts to Mitigate Traffic: I am working on several key innovative initiatives to mitigate traffic, such as implementing a traffic management software system, the hiring of traffic control officers to facilitate smooth traffic flow and keep intersections clear from drivers blocking the box, and enforcing legal measures against deliberate traffic obstruction, to name just a few.
Protecting Biscayne Bay & Infrastructure Upgrades: Our resident-friendly resiliency measures must keep our streets and homes dry, protect Biscayne Bay and prioritize upgrading our aging water and sewer infrastructure. My resiliency priorities and initiatives include prioritizing installation of new water and sewer piping and related infrastructure throughout Miami Beach; coordinate and align the City's sewer replacement projects with the recommendations of the County’s Biscayne Bay Task Force; and address flooding in low-lying areas.
Improving our Quality of Life: I am laser focused on addressing our quality of life issues from day one. You will immediately notice this back to the basics approach which will also be readily apparent at our first Commission meeting and every meeting thereafter. Residents first will not only be a slogan, it will be reality.

I have never taken any money from developers and special interests doing business with Miami Beach either directly (it’s illegal!) or through a loophole such as a PAC.
I am a federal Enforcement attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (since 2007) and previous to the SEC I litigated high-profile complex financial cases for prestigious NY law firms Dewey Ballantine and Mayer Brown.
